Overview

Redundant Symbol Rule - Special Case
When a pronoun symbol and verb root share the same first symbol, the pronoun symbol is not written twice. The single symbol does double work as both pronoun and beginning of the verb.

READING GOAL:
To recognize when a single symbol represents BOTH the pronoun AND the beginning of the verb root.

The Rule

When pronoun symbol = first symbol of verb root:

  • The pronoun symbol is not written twice
  • You see ONE symbol doing the work of TWO
  • Context tells you the pronoun is present

This applies to pronoun symbols: ื, ื™, ื•, ืช, ื

Examples - When Symbols Match

EXAMPLE 1
I say
ืืžืจ
I ื ยท to say ืืžืจ
Expected: ืืืžืจ โ†’ Actual: ืืžืจ (no repeat)
EXAMPLE 2
I love
ืื”ื‘
I ื ยท to love ืื”ื‘
Expected: ืืื”ื‘ โ†’ Actual: ืื”ื‘ (no repeat)
EXAMPLE 3
he sits
ื™ืฉื‘
he ื™ ยท to sit ื™ืฉื‘
Expected: ื™ื™ืฉื‘ โ†’ Actual: ื™ืฉื‘ (no repeat)

Examples - When Symbols Are Different

EXAMPLE 4
we say
ื ืืžืจ
we ื  ยท to say ืืžืจ
Different symbols - both appear: ื ืืžืจ
EXAMPLE 5
I will speak
ืื“ื‘ืจ
I ื ยท to speak ื“ื‘ืจ
Different symbols - both appear: ืื“ื‘ืจ
EXAMPLE 6
he will kill
ื™ืงื˜ืœ
he ื™ ยท to kill ืงื˜ืœ
Different symbols - both appear: ื™ืงื˜ืœ

Key Points

  • When pronoun symbol = first symbol of verb root, the pronoun symbol is not written twice
  • One symbol does the work of two (pronoun + verb start)
  • Applies to: ื, ื™, ื•, ืช, ื
  • Other symbols in Judean CAN repeat - this rule is pronoun-specific
  • Context tells you the pronoun is present
