Overview

What is an Adjective Phrase?
An adjective phrase contains ONLY adjectives or descriptive words - NO noun. It describes qualities without naming what has those qualities.

READING GOAL:
To distinguish between adjectives used alone versus adjectives describing specific nouns.

The Rule

Adjective WITHOUT Noun: Standalone descriptive word
Adjective WITH Noun: Part of a noun phrase (comes after noun)

When an adjective stands alone, it functions independently as a description.

Adjectives Standing Alone (No Noun)

EXAMPLE 1
good
ื˜ื•ื‘
ื˜ื•ื‘ = good
EXAMPLE 2
big
ื’ื“ื•ืœ
ื’ื“ื•ืœ = big
EXAMPLE 3
holy
ืงื“ื•ืฉ
ืงื“ื•ืฉ = holy

Adjectives With Nouns (Noun Phrase)

EXAMPLE 4
good dog
ื›ืœื‘ ยท ื˜ื•ื‘
ื›ืœื‘ = dog ยท ื˜ื•ื‘ = good
EXAMPLE 5
big house
ื‘ื™ืช ยท ื’ื“ื•ืœ
ื‘ื™ืช = house ยท ื’ื“ื•ืœ = big
EXAMPLE 6
holy spirit
ืจื•ื— ยท ืงื“ื•ืฉ
ืจื•ื— = spirit ยท ืงื“ื•ืฉ = holy
