Overview

Judean: "And" (ื•) affixes to the second word as a prefix.

English: "And" is a separate word between items.

READING GOAL:
To recognize when ื• is attached to a word meaning "and".

The Rule

English: Noun + and + Noun (day and night) = 3 separate words

Judean: Noun + ื•Noun (ื™ื•ื ยท ื•ืœื™ืœื”) = 2 words, "and" attached to second word

The word "and" becomes the prefix ื• on the following word.

Examples

EXAMPLE 1

ื™ื•ื ยท ื•ืœื™ืœื”
and-night ื•ืœื™ืœื” ยท day ื™ื•ื

Lists: More Than Two Words

When there are more than two items in a list, EVERY word after the first gets ื• attached.

English: Uses commas, with "and" only before the last item.
Judean: Every item after the first gets ื• prefix.

EXAMPLE 7
lion, dog, mouse
ืืจื™ ยท ื•ื›ืœื‘ ยท ื•ืขื›ื‘ืจ
and-mouse ื•ืขื›ื‘ืจ ยท and-dog ื•ื›ืœื‘ ยท lion ืืจื™

  • First word stays unchanged
  • In lists, ALL words after the first get ื• attached
  • Commas become ื• on each following word
  • Literal Translation: "day and-night" not "day and night"
