Overview

The Article Rule
English uses "the" as a separate word. Judean attaches ื” as a prefix directly to the noun.

READING GOAL:
To recognize when ื” at the beginning of a word means "the" and is not part of the word itself.

The Rule

English: "the" + noun (two separate words)
Judean: ื” + noun (prefix attached)

The ื” prefix means "the" and attaches to the front of the noun.

Examples

EXAMPLE 1
the house
ื”ื‘ื™ืช
ื‘ื™ืช = house ยท ื” = the
EXAMPLE 2
the king
ื”ืžืœืš
ืžืœืš = king ยท ื” = the
EXAMPLE 3
the dog
ื”ื›ืœื‘
ื›ืœื‘ = dog ยท ื” = the
EXAMPLE 4
the woman
ื”ืืฉื”
ืืฉื” = woman ยท ื” = the
EXAMPLE 5
the land
ื”ืืจืฅ
ืืจืฅ = land ยท ื” = the

Key Points

  • ื” is a prefix, not a separate word
  • ื” always means "the"
  • Attaches directly to the noun
  • No space between ื” and the noun
  • Judean has no word for "a" or "an" - just use the noun without ื”
